hallo, neues Mitglied hier. Ich bin Englisch mit google so leid übersetzen für die Sprache! Ich habe dies schon Sinn, aber ist dies der 1. Generation Lemania 5100 und wie alt es ist. Die Seriennummer befindet sich S-89407, ob das hilft?

The manfacturing date of this watch must be after 1985, because the official logo from the D1 space mission is engraved on the case back.
In 1985, the first Spacelab mission largely dedicated to experiments prepared by German scientists took place aboard Space Shuttle Challenger.
Aboard this Space Shuttle mission was the first automatic chronograph in space.
The German Astronaut Prof. Reinhard Furrer was wearing a Sinn model 142 (black) at this mission.

Therefore I would assume the watch was manufactured around 1990?
But, the position of the Automatic writing seems to be unusual for me.

But maybe one of the experts here knows more details about the serial number.

thanks Thomas, that makes sense, i was thinking that having just 2 sub registers it would be an early version. But as you say it cant predate the spacelab mission

I think the caseback is not original to the watch. If I am not mistaken, the D1 version of the 142 has a special dial with a logo in place of the 9 o'clock continuous seconds register.

I have a friend who owns a similar two-register 140/142. His contains a Lemania 5100 just as yours. The dial script is the same, too. The medallion (with serial number) on your movement is typical of an early version of the 5100, so my guess is that it was produced in the early 1980's. The serial number is low for a 5100, confirming my suspicion that it is from early in the 140/142 production range.

I have seen a few of these and believe your particular version is a transitional model between the Lemania 1341-powered 140 and the three-subdial 142. That is only my theory, but suffice to say that you should keep it! The other versions of this watch I have seen use a plain caseback (no engravings) with straight-grain finish.

I'd say the caseback is the original one.

The watch is a 140 B, it has the nice large and thin "S" in "Sinn". If you ever want to repair or
recondition it, make sure no to change the hands or the dial. As far as I know, there are no
more 140 dials.

You could have asked Sinn about the number, but sadly the information to older watches are
gone.

The Stop-Minutehand on this watch was used in 1988/89

You're right about the dial of the 142TiD1 - but not about the back, since there is no D1 logo on the back of this limited edition, but the logo of the DLR.
